Tom Rodd
 


Thomas W. Rodd attended Berea College in Kentucky and Fairmont State College in West Virginia.  He received his law degree in 1982 from the West Virginia University College of Law, where he served on the Law Review Editorial Board and was awarded the Order of the Coif.  After graduation he worked as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable James Sprouse, Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  He then worked as a staff attorney for North Central West Virginia Legal Aid; as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Monongalia County, WV; and as counsel to the Judiciary Committee of the West Virginia House of Delegates, before opening a private law office in Morgantown, WV.  In private practice Mr. Rodd handled a wide variety of civil and criminal matters at trial and appeal, emphasizing environmental protection advocacy on behalf of plaintiffs. He was awarded the West Virginia Environmental Council’s “Mother Jones” award for environmental litigation in 1993.  In 1994 he became the Director of West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw’s Consumer Protection Division, where he successfully prosecuted hundreds of nationwide scam artists who were preying on West Virginia seniors.  In 1996 he became the Senior Law Clerk to West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Larry V. Starcher, where he researched and drafted hundreds of appellate opinions.  Mr. Rodd joined The Calwell Practice in November 2008.  He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of West Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals  for the Fourth Circuit.
